Why is there no official processing time?
Because the single permit is not one procedure. The employer applies to the Employment Agency, a labour market test applies except for exempt categories, the worker then needs a type D visa, and only after that does the Migration Directorate issue the permit. Each stage has its own authority, and no one publishes a total for the chain.
Our reference data records this as “no data”, checked on 26 September 2026. A number quoted by an agent or a blog is at best a secondary estimate for that stage, not a deadline you can rely on.

Which deadlines are fixed by law?
A fixed deadline exists for the Blue Card, not for the single permit.
Two routes do have a published limit. The EU Blue Card: 3 months5 at most, and the salary must be 1.5 x average gross monthly salary in Bulgaria25, with no labour market test. Residence by investment: Investment Agency pre-approval in 40 days6, after which the residence permit procedure starts.
For a highly qualified post, the Blue Card is therefore the more predictable route. For most other jobs, the single permit is the only employer route, and the honest planning answer is “no published maximum”.
Moving your company and your tax residence: where the permit fits
Owners who relocate to Bulgaria usually plan around tax: personal income tax is 10%78 and corporate tax 10%910. The permit stage is the part with no published end date, so build the move so that nothing depends on a permit arriving by a specific day.
If your own Bulgarian company is the employer, it goes through the same employer application and labour market test as any other. If you work for a company outside the EU and have no Bulgarian employer, the single permit is the wrong route — look at the digital nomad permit, which requires €31,010/year1112.
